Object Lessons is about the experience of living in a human body, transformation, and the shifting of the self and the body from subject to object (and vise versa). The text is erasure poetry created from Object Lessons on the Human Body—a transcript of lessons given in the primary department of school no. 49, New York City, 1894. Imagery was created from a copperplate etching of an X-ray of a human hand. The etching was subjected to an open source glitch art program to create an altered image. That image was then subjected to the same program and so on—each iteration moving further from the original, eventually transforming into something else entirely.
