I try to make every choice in my process deliberate and intentional in terms of both concept and medium. If I haven’t carefully considered each move, I feel like the work is devalued. I know I am not unique in this tendency. But what I struggle with the most is when my crusade against thoughtlessness becomes an excuse for inaction. Theorizing is my “happy place”, and the actual making—with all the potential for (seemingly) irreversible failure that comes with it—scares the crap out of me. So as a maker, please tell me: Do you struggle with this too? How do you convince yourself to get out of your head?
